About Us

Background, mandate and objectives of the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Enterpreneurs.

Background

The Federation of Nepalese National Transport Enterpreneurs was established in 1979. As the central umbrella organization of associations, committees and companies operating passenger, cargo and tourist vehicles across the country, the federation continues to work in coordination with the Government of Nepal to resolve challenges in the transport sector.

As the country developed and public transport expanded, roads reached all 77 districts and the number of vehicles grew rapidly, along with the associations and companies formed to operate and manage them. When the Government of Nepal expanded the federation's scope under the federal structure, the sector had grown to roughly NPR 1.3 trillion in investment, around 500,000 vehicles, and about 1.5 million direct jobs.

The federation was first registered in 1979 under the chairmanship of the late transport leader Jagadish Nepali. Following a decision of the Council of Ministers, it was later registered under the National Directives Act 2018, and recognised by the Government of Nepal as the central umbrella organization for transport bodies nationwide, with a mandate covering policy, service operation and consumer protection.

After the establishment of the federal democratic republic and the promulgation of the new Constitution in 2072, the federation expanded its scope in line with the federal structure, forming province committees in all seven provinces and district committees in 60 districts.

At the 7th National Convention held in Pokhara in 2083, a new working committee led by Punya Prasad Sitaula (Saroj) was elected and took charge. Today, around 366 associations, committees and companies operating passenger, cargo and tourist vehicles are affiliated with the federation.
